Wallawong Angus Clean Sweep Export Feedlot Challenge

Wallawong Angus cattle proved very successful again at the RAS Beef Challenge Awards Night, after the feedlot challenge that was held at Wilga Feedlot, Bellata in North West NSW.

The RAS Beef Challenge had seedstock and commercial entrants from not only local producers but producers from various parts of Australia. The event judges pens of steers and heifers that are entered in 70 days on feed domestic class or 100 on feed export class, as well as individual beasts from each category.

There were excellent results across the board, with Wallawong cattle (entered as James Family Agriculture) faring well amongst some very stiff competition.

In the Export categories, James Family Agriculture took out a clean sweep of the awards, with Champion team and Reserve Champion Team going to two pens of our Angus steers.

We also took home Reserve Champion Individual with an Angus steer and achieved two Silver Medals and a Bronze Medal for Carcase Quality for the three teams that were entered.

Angus Stud History

In a natural expansion of our business, Wallawong Angus was founded with the purchase of 34 PTIC cows in 2015 from Woodbourn Angus Tasmania along with the $18,000 sire Landfall Modest F72. The Woodbourn cows were in calf to F72 or the $30,000 sale topper Koojan Hills Africa G8. Subsequent AI programs have included Ayrvale Bartel E7, Dunoon Evident E614 and Sitz Upward 307R. Further cow and bull purchases have been made from Kansas Angus, Stoney Point Angus SA and Dance Angus NSW with the first Wallawong Angus bulls being successfully sold in 2017.

Kansas Judd L76

Judd was purchased as the foundation sire for the herd. He was an impressive 8 month old calf when purchased at the Kansas dispersal for $11,500. He was selected for his outstanding growth, depth, muscularity and style. His dam is a high quality female displaying an sound udder, extra volume and sleek coat when sold for $9500 at the Kansas dispersal.

Judd L76 was accepted into the Angus Australia Sire Benchmarking program, Cohort 7. Judd has been used to join mature females after AI and we eagerly await his calves in late 2017.

Purchase of Stoney Point Xtra Focussed E159 as ET Donor Female

Stoney Point Xtra Focussed E159

On the look out for high quality donor females, we ventured to the Stoney Point Autumn calving dispersal in South Australia. We were very happy to select and purchase E159 as a foundation donor female.

Selected for her exceptional depth and volume, E159’s sleek coat and solid performance data were added benefits. E159 will be flushed in late 2017 to the $85,000 sire Nampara Liberty L21 with resulting embryos implanted as part of our herd expansion program.
